“But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, And did not destroy them.” Psalm 78.38

San Diego native, Nick Yates, grew up hearing about Jesus in the Catholic Church. His freshman year of high school he was invited to the 7pm service at Horizon; his friends had been bugging him to check this Pastor named Miles who was teaching at those services.

The first night he attended, he gave his life to the Lord. Wanting to grow in the Lord, Nick got involved with Young Life where mature Christians poured into him; eventually Young Life gave him an opportunity to serve. His freshman year of college he began playing football at Mesa College

“It was then that I started to make some poor choices...”

Nick began coaching high school football at Mira Mesa, but also choose to live life in a rebellious state. At the end of a heartbreaking relationship he returned to the Lord.

“I remember hearing a message at Rock Church… Pastor Miles said that even though people mess up, God still has a plan…it gave me hope and the courage to return to Jesus…’”

Within the year God led Nick to a year long discipleship program.

“I knew that although I had been serving in ministry in the past, that I needed to have a solid biblical foundation… I needed to learn how to study the Bible for myself.”

In November of 2009 God made a way for Nick got to go on a missions trip to Israel.

“I remember feeling such a burden for the city of Jerusalem… I had never felt anything like that before… when I got baptized in the Sea of Galilee where Jesus did a ton of His ministry, I realized that I didn’t just want to do ministry for Jesus anymore – I wanted to do ministry with Him. My baptism there sealed the deal for me… no turning back...”

In 2010, Nick stepped into an internship position with IMPACT195, helping to facilitate out-of-the-box experiences and weekly outreaches for the program’s world changers.

“God was doing such a healing work in me at the time…I was experiencing true discipleship and at the same time I was empowering people to change the world!”

2011 God opened another door for him to join the IMPACT195 core team as the Assistant Academic Coordinator for the day class. This April he will be returning to Haiti for the 3rd time with the program, helping with the installation of well and co-leading the short-term trip.

“God has been showing me if I can be faithful with the little He gives me, He will entrust me with more…”
